Monday, August 21 | 7 am-Noon
Bush Barn Art Center | 600 Mission St. SE
The Salem Art Association invites artists of all disciplines to participate in ART IN THE PARK IN THE DARK. Taking place in Salem’s picturesque Bush Park during the solar eclipse in August, this free event encourages artists to gather together, and to document this extraordinary phenomenon through art. The light will change throughout the morning, and the totality of the eclipse, when nearly complete darkness takes place, will happen shortly after 10:15 am.
After the event, artists will have about two weeks to prepare their artwork for an eclipse themed exhibition at the Bush Barn Art Center. The first 50 participants to deliver artwork will be included (one entry per artist).
Why is the eclipse such a big deal? The path of the eclipse will run straight across Oregon, and Salem is one of the handful of cities in the United States that is in a prime location to view it. A total solar eclipse last crossed Oregon in 1979, and another won’t return until 2108. That makes this eclipse a once-in-a-lifetime event for many artists and Oregonians.
Light refreshments will be served during ART IN THE PARK IN THE DARK. All media are welcome, including literary, and performing arts. Materials are not provided. To register, contact david@SalemArt.org. This event is free of charge, but donations are welcome.
