SAM MARROQUIN | INHABIT: REFLECTIONS OF US
JANUARY 9 – FEBRUARY 22, 2026 | FOCUS GALLERY
OPENING RECEPTION: FRIDAY, JANUARY 9, 5:30–7:30 P.M.

I explore the human condition. Through my paintings, I investigate and expose truth in current and historical events. Exploring the environment, consumerism, and our own identities I reveal layers of information that lie beyond the surface.

Examining the transmission and dissemination of information, I delve into the ways in which we are distracted from important issues. I document and uncover narratives of the marginalized and underrepresented. These points of view comprise our collective experience of fact and fiction.

HILDA RUEDA | PURITY
JANUARY 9 – FEBRUARY 22, 2026 | CAMAS GALLERY

Purity, a large oil painting by Hilda Rueda, was recently gifted to the Salem Art Association Permanent Collection by Nadene LeCheminant. The portrait depicts Jeanne Kilongo at fifteen years old, capturing her calm presence, resilience, and quiet strength. Jeanne and her family came to Salem from a refugee camp in Tanzania, and her story reflects both the challenges and perseverance of many refugee families in our community. Jeanne’s mother, Sifa Kilongo, now works with Salem for Refugees, with information on how to volunteer or donate available in the gallery.
