“Walking through the door of Bush Barn Art Center to volunteer in the galleries is like a creativity espresso shot. The exhibits and gift gallery offerings are ever-changing, ever-inspiring and the staff and artists are a blast. It’s an addictive experience and I highly recommend it.”
-Robin Cunningham | 2012 SAA Volunteer of the Year
Volunteers of all ages and experiences bring a broad spectrum of talents to Salem Art Association – on a regular schedule, seasonally, or at special events such as the Salem Art Fair & Festival. In 2012, more than 1,000 volunteers dedicated over 8,500 hours of time helping with SAA’s special events, doing tasks which are matched to their preferences, talents and availability. The dedication of our volunteers is highly valued and appreciated. Experience has shown that an interest in art brings volunteers to the Association, but it is the activities and friendships they forge with the other volunteers and staff that keep them coming back for years.
Volunteering is a great way to not only get involved and help fulfill SAA’s mission, but to gain professional experience as well. Each month, SAA has a number of volunteer opportunities ranging from marketing and event support to stuffing envelopes, organizing storage space and curatorial assistance. Most volunteer opportunities require no experience unless otherwise stated. All opportunities are in team-oriented settings with direction and support provided by SAA staff. Some opportunities involve standing, bending and lifting up to 20 lbs where others may require the ability to travel short distances and work with community members.
To get involved, please fill out the online application below. If you prefer, you may also print the application and mail it or hand deliver it to the Bush Barn Art Center front desk in Bush’s Pasture Park.
