Explore Salem’s history with a visit to the historic Bush House Museum, an 1878 Italianate residence that was home to pioneer businessman Asahel Bush II and his family.
The Bush House Museum preserves an extensive collection of historic fittings and furnishings, including original wallpapers and ornate marble fireplaces. The Museum is located on the grounds of Bush’s Pasture Park, once the family estate and now home to a fine collection of vintage roses, the oldest greenhouse in Oregon, and an historic barn which has been transformed into a community arts center.
The Museum is open for guided tours and offers special events and changing exhibits throughout the year.
The house has been open to the public since 1953, owned and maintained by the City of Salem and operated as a museum by the Salem Art Association. The house was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974. To this day it remains a cultural center, part of the fabric of Salem life and a source of pride to the community.
