For Salem artist and business owner Cami Cummings, art helped her find her own voice and now she’s on a mission to help others do the same. “I found that my strongest voice is when I’m able to create art. So this year, I’m teaching women and children how to find confidence in who they are, find their identity, and know how to express themselves through color,” says Cami. Although she’s been drawing and painting since she was a child, it wasn’t until Cami moved to Salem seven years ago that she began to consider turning her painting from hobby to a business. “When I moved here to Oregon, that’s when I started looking into having my own studio,” she says. “And of course, you get a lot of No’s when you’re going after your dream. ‘Maybe if you change this or that’ – I was ‘No, this is what I want to do. I don’t care how many No’s I get, I’m going to get a Yes eventually.”‘

Cami opened her studio, Paint with Cami, a year ago, and specializes in creating painting parties, along with her own gallery pieces. Combined with good food and good music, her paint parties expose people to different cultures and artistic styles, all while having a lot of fun. “I’m all about building the community, building unity between not just communities but all types of races, ethnic backgrounds, all types of people, different cultures.
