Artist in Residence | Dayna Collins

ANNEX STUDIO | SEPTEMBER 2025

Dayna Collins will be working with paint on the theme of Fearless Faces. The name comes from the fact that Dayna had no formal art training and lacked confidence in painting faces. Fortunately, her curiosity was stronger than my perceived lack of talent and what emerged was a series of crazy, colorful faces that still make us smile.
 
During the AIR, Dayna will paint from the vantage point of having stronger creative confidence, years of painting experience, the ongoing reminder to take risks, and the
never-ending challenge to let go of control. Dayna will be asking, throughout the month: What startles me? What causes a gasp of delight? What takes my breath away? What is unexpected? What can be pushed to extremes What am I willing to cover?

2026 APPLICATION ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE

The Salem Art Association is offering several categories as part of the 2026 Artist-in-Residence (AIR) program in the Annex at the Bush Barn Art Center. This residency offers a dedicated studio space for artist(s) to experiment and create new work.

About: Artist-in-Residence (AIR)

The Salem Art Association’s Community Arts Education program hosts an Artist-in-Residence (AIR) program in the Annex. This program aims to serve artists by providing a flexible space for artistic development and experimentation.

FACILITY

AIR studio space is located in the Annex at the Bush Barn Art Center. Completely renovated in 2016, the studio is geared primarily toward printmaking but can accommodate artists working in a variety of media. Separated from the studio by two, large sliding doors (which can be left open to encourage public interaction while working), is a large gallery which is made available for the AIR to display their process and/or finished work, or host workshops, lectures, etc.
