Ikebana

The Japanese art of flower arranging brings a unique beauty and mindfulness to floral decoration, emphasizing the harmonious relationship between flowers, containers, and their surrounding space.

In contrast to Western floral arrangements, ikebana features carefully chosen seasonal flowers, branches, and leaves arranged in a way that reflects the natural growth of plants and the subtle shifts of the seasons. Each arrangement, or kado (“the way of flowers”), invites us to find tranquility through simplicity and balance.

More than an art form, ikebana is a meditative practice where practitioners cultivate a deep connection to nature. Through the precise placement of each element, the artist creates a visual story that reflects nature’s elegance and the changing rhythm of life, inspiring inner peace and awareness.

The Ohara School

Founded in the late 19th century, the Ohara School is one of the significant schools of ikebana, renowned for its emphasis on seasonal beauty and natural landscapes. The Ohara School encourages students to observe and learn from nature, guiding each arrangement to embody the subtle changes of the seasons and the diverse character of the natural world.

We invite you to explore “Whispers of Spring,” presented by the Ohara School of Ikebana, Oregon Chapter. Discover the serene beauty of Japanese floral art as we celebrate the arrival of spring through the grace of ikebana.
