During their residency, Rehfield will make studies to prepare for a series of large, new paintings. These studies will be made using experimentation with oil stick, paint and pastel in combination with other dry media on paper and/or loose, cut pieces of canvas and may include collage. The studies’ imagery will reference Rehfield’s own collection of photos that feature elements from nature including seaweed, stones, the moon, palm and other tropical trees and plants with representation of queer bodies, featuring their wife’s nude body to explore and offer reflection on the beauty of trans bodies. The studies will be made in the Annex Studio using easels and on table tops to work on multiple studies at one time. The public is invited to a Brown Bag Talk to be scheduled.
