artist’s biography:
Eric Wuest is an experienced artist based in Salem, Oregon, with a career spanning over four decades. Born in British Columbia, Eric moved to the Willamette Valley as a teen, where he immersed himself in the local arts scene and began to develop his skills.
Eric’s artistic repertoire includes drawing, painting, figure studies, and printmaking. He is known for his unique approach to creating images that reveal different perspectives when viewed from varying distances. His work often encourages viewers to look beyond the surface and discover new dimensions.
Eric’s formal art education began at Chemeketa Community College and continued at Western Oregon University, where he gained valuable skills and insights that shaped his artistic vision.
Eric’s work has been showcased in various venues, including the Oregon State Capitol and galleries throughout the Willamette Valley. He has illustrated the books of Alan Contreras and contributed to educational resources, such as the textbook “Art for Everyone” published by Chemeketa Community College. He is the originator of the KMUZ radio program, “Talking About Art.” Eric has taught painting and drawing classes and has worked with the Salem Art Association and Artists in Action to advance their goals.
Eric believes that art has the potential to bring together communities and foster understanding, creating connections that transcend differences. Eric is particularly excited about the new generation of artists. He believes that these emerging artists are pushing the boundaries of creativity and are set to leave a significant mark on the art world.
Eric’s ongoing projects and exercises, inspired by the intersection of art and physics, continue to motivate and occupy him. His partner of fifty years, Mike, whose encouragement has been a key factor in his success.
