FRIDAY MAY 3, 2024 FROM 5:30 – 7:30 P.M.

This month we’ve got four shows opening – PAST IS PRESENT, RADIUS 25: WHAT MATTERS , FOOTSTEPS AND MONUMENTS, and THE ART OF TATTOO.

Queer Love

In my native Hoopa language, kiwhliw means “he who paints.” First and foremost, I am a painter. I create complex, richly colorful compositions. I am also Native American, born on the Hoopa Valley Reservation in Northern California. Indian Land, where the past is always present, is where my paintings begin.

MAY 3 – JUNE 23, 2024 | CAMAS GALLERY

I find myself captivated by the profound connection between human
anatomy and our surroundings. Footprints, the ancient imprints we leave behind,
serve as poignant reminders of this intricate relationship.

MAY 3 – JUNE 23, 2024 | ANNEX GALLERY

RADIUS 25 is a juried exhibition showcasing artists residing within a 25-mile radius of Salem around the theme "What Matters."

Queer Love

Tattoo artists are artists working in the medium of tattoo, among other art mediums. This exhibition is a window into artists living and working in Salem, Oregon, who work with tattoo as an art form. Salem Art Association wanted to bring this art form into the context of a gallery, so that it can be viewed on its own.

ANNEX STUDIO | MAY 1 – 28, 2024

In using traditional still life items like flowers to express loss, while adding more specified items to my visual narrative, I can connect with my lived experience instead of distancing myself from it. I use a variety of paint, ink and pencil in saturated color to transfer my ideas to paper. I am grateful for the physical and emotional space offered by Salem Art Association to complete this work.
