Allan Hayton: Things Keep Happening
One hour presentation with Q&A; virtual
The Queer Artist Series: 2SLGBTQIAP In Focus brings new artists to Salem Art Association with events featuring work by Queer artists.
In Things Keep Happening, Allan shares his coming of age story set amid a vibrant scene of colorful characters drawn from all over the world to Second Avenue in 1970s oil boom Fairbanks, Alaska. Building off a recent performance with 2023’s Out North Fringe Festival in Anchorage, AK, Things Keep Happening delivers a series of semi-autobiographical stories, blended with otherworldly cultural narratives in Gwich’in Athabascan language. Allan’s deeply personal style of storytelling is evident across these stories of survival and overcoming.

Artist Statement:
“I’ve been fighting for revitalization of our language and culture. In my own life and family, I can see the very upheaval, turmoil, and disconnect which has led to these losses. In the midst of it all, I try to remember the words of our elders… “Nakhwatsii govehłee ch’agohkhyaa shro’… do not stray from the path of your ancestors.” -Allan Hayton
